EMBEDDED SYSTEM ENGINEER
Ascent AeroSystems is one of the most exciting new players in the UAS industry, and our unique coaxial designs provide the foundation for the most portable and durable vehicles available anywhere. To meet tremendous demand from customers across the professional, commercial, industrial, public safety and military markets, we're actively looking for experienced engineers to join our northern Boston team.
You'll bring your expertise as a flexible, innovative engineer with a solid grasp of design and a knack for clean-sheet thinking. Flexibility, curiosity and a burning desire to wear many hats are core to your being…you’ll need to be willing to take on any number of tasks that face a small, fast growing company. One hour you’ll be working on a new CAD model, the next you’ll be rolling up your sleeves and helping to assemble prototype vehicles while coordinating the efforts of part-time help you’ll help to hire and train.
If you’re someone who wants to work at the leading edge of aerospace technology where design cycles are short and decisions can be made quickly, this is your kind of environment. Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles is required, and experience with advanced robotics, UAV technology (especially autopilot and flight control logic) and aerodynamics would be ideal. This position needs to be filled as soon as possible.
Work independently or as a team member to design, build, test and troubleshoot hardware and software for autonomous vehicles. This could include autopilot, environmental sensing, motor control, battery charging circuits, or radio communications, among others.
Program OS and embedded applications as well as embedded processors
Define, analyze and review software requirements to meet defined and anticipated customer needs and system quality and performance standards
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines in planning, design and development of systems to ensure software and hardware performance and compatibility
Write test plans and test cases, conduct unit integration and system-level testing
Support flight-test operations
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field of study and 3+ years of post-graduate work experience
Use of real-time operating systems
Low-level device driver development
Comfortable with typical embedded systems tools, compilers, debuggers and IDEs
Broad experience with microcontrollers and application processors
Familiarity with typical peripheral interfaces, such as High-speed serial interfaces (including USB and MIPI CSI2), Low-speed serial interfaces (including SPI, I2C, CAN, RS232 and RS485)
Strong debugging skills through use of instrumentation such as oscilloscopes and protocol analyzers
Some experience with wireless communications
Basic understanding of microprocessor and electrical systems
Comfortable working collaboratively with revision control systems (such as git)
Enjoys the challenge of solving complex systems problems in a fast-paced environment
Preferred: application experience in areas such as Robotics, Automation, Motor control, and Sensor fusion
Programming experience required with preference to candidates with C/C++, Java and Linux
Experience debugging and prototyping PCBs is required. Some experience with PCB design, schematic capture and layout, component selection and analog and digital logic design is desired.
Recent (last 12 months) demonstrated ability to develop (i.e. model or write) production software
Candidates with UAV aircraft, robotics development experience and/or hobby drone experience will be given special consideration.
Some travel will be required to support customers, flight testing, vendor management, marketing and sales initiatives
